Unemployed, Almost Single, Seeks Voice…..

July 22, 2006 at 2:01 am (Graduation 2006, Zee TV, depression, emotional suicide, mom whining)

Quit my job at Zee. Politics and sad working conditions and mentally raping of my head forced me to do so. Still in the aftershock of the trauma. Especially since most people in the company think I got fired. Screw them. Not worth wasting time over. But bugger them all the more for screwing up my graduation plans. May they rot in hell…..

Almost got single thanks to my flu. Dumb bastard. Jerk. Arsehole. #$&! !$%^@# !@#^&%#$ . Didn’t know that my car was more important than me hovering over life and death. Bugger it all. Must stop reading so many Brit novels.

Have a newsreading audition at HUM. In Urdu/Hindi. My mom, being the bright ray of sunshine that she always is, says that its impossible for me to do it and if they can do it in English. Yea right mom. Like they’ll change their station to English just so I can work there. But I’m determined to be the next best thing since…..since….since the previous biggest thing to hit Hindi/Urdu newsreaders. But only once my voice returns from Ursula’s grasp……where’s that damn shell…….

Came across a funny video the other day…teehee.

Things have been a whirlwind for me the past few days. I fell down the stairs again at the Antakshari shoot in Ajman….looks like the stairs gave me loads of hickeys all over my left arm. But not as bad as Neel…poor boy got stitches..hope he gets better soon n takes enough rest. If there’s any perfectionist that’s him. Can’t wait for my intern to end…and normalcy to begin. I need a break baaaaad.

Here’s a forward I received…although for fairness sake I disagree with the terrorist label of Afghans, Paks and Iraqis……(possibly sumthing to do with sum red white and blue boys?)

Dear Terrorist,

Even if you are not reading this we don’t care. Time and again you tried to disturb us and disrupt our life – killing innocent civilians by planting bombs in trains, buses and cars. You have tried hard to bring death and destruction, cause panic and fear and create communal disharmony but everytime you were disgustingly unsuccessful. Do you know how we pass our life in Mumbai? How much it takes for us to earn that single rupee? If you wanted to give us a shock then we are sorry to say that you failed miserably in your ulterior motives. Better look elsewere, not here.

We are not Hindus and Muslims or Gujaratis and Marathis or Punjabis and Bengaliies. Nor do we distinguish ourselves as owners or workers, govt. employees or private employees. WE ARE MUMBAIKERS (Bombay-ites, if you like). We will not allow you to disrupt our life like this. On the last few occassions when you struck (including the 7 deadly blasts in a single day killing over 250 people and injuring 500+ in 1993), we went to work next day in full strength. This time we cleared everything within a few hours and were back to normal – the vendors placing their next order, businessmen finalizing the next deals and the office workers rushing to catch the next train. (Yes the same train you targetted)

Fathom this: Within 3 hours of the blasts, long queues of blood donating volunteers were seen outside various hospital, where most of the injured were admitted. By 12 midnight, the hospital had to issue a notification that blood banks were full and they didn’t require any more blood. The next day, attendance at schools and office was close to 100%, trains & buses were packed to the brim, the crowds were back. The city has simply dusted itself off and moved one – perhaps with greater vigour.

We are Mumbaikers and we live like brothers in times like this. So, do not dare to threaten us with your crackers. The spirit of Mumbai is very strong and can not be harmed.

Please forward this to others. U never know, by chance it may come to hands of a terrorist in Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iraq and he can then read this message which is specially meant for him!!!

With Love,
From a Mumbaiker,

Cut My Life Into Pieces….Fuk That – Cut Me To Pieces

July 8, 2006 at 8:16 pm (depression, emotional suicide)

I want to kill myself…..for real. Not a feeling like I want to but won’t, but I really want to end it. I’m scared of heights, I can’t see straight to cut myself properly, no pill in the house is strong enough…..maybe I’ll sniff some Baygone and be gone. Didn’t work the last time I tried, won’t work again…damn my luck. I can’t even die properly. Maybe I’ll just stop eating and drinking and collapse due to starvation. If that doesn’t work, atleast I’ll be thinner by the end of it.

I want to quit. If it wasn’t for my fucking grade that will let me fukin graduate early so i can save some freakking money…..Once my obligation is over, I never want to work there again, even if they pay me loads of money. If ‘What The Bleep Do We Know’ was right about us controlling our destinies and our lives, I want mine to end now.

Current song in my head:

aye saala
abhi abhi huaa yaqeen
ki aag hai mujh mein kahi
hui subaah main chal gaya
suraj ko main nigal gaya
ruu-ba-ruu roshni heyy – 2

jo gumshuda-sa khwaab tha
voh mil gaya voh khil gaya
uulon hathaa pighal gaya
kichhaa kichhaa machal gaya
sitaar mein badal gaya
ruu-ba-ruu roshni heyy – 2

(dhuaan chhataa khula gagan mera
nayi dagar naya safar mera
jo ban sake tu hamsafar mera
nazar mila zara) – 2

aandhiyon se jaghad rahi hai lau meri
ab mashaalon si bhad rahi hai lau meri
naamo nishaan rahe na rahe
ye kaaravaan rahe na rahe
ujaale mein pee gaya
roshan huaa jee gaya
kyon sehte rahe
ruu-ba-ruu roshni heyy – 2

dhuaan chhataa khula gagan mera
nayi dagar naya safar mera
jo ban sake tu hamsafar mera
nazar mila zara

Over The Dredge…..

July 8, 2006 at 3:40 am (Nomi, Suzie, Zee TV)

Been very hectic so far, so had no time to breathe, let alone blog. Office politics really stress me out. And love politics too. Feeling kinda low. Miss my pals alot. Miss myself too. But have a great treat tomorrow. I get to go to the beach with Suzie. I love her loads…..I’m gonna miss her when I graduate.

Need to stop thinking about killing myself. Need sleep. Need to make coherent sentences. Like the bulk of Chinese live in China……how profound.

Hit the sack….*bump* *ouch*……have a meeting with S tmr. A’s phone is switched off. Nomi called just to borrow my car….I feel so needed.

MCM 102:Crash and Burn

July 8, 2006 at 2:56 am (Jukebox in head, depression, emotional suicide)

Just when we thought that we were getting closer to a ‘global’ community where everyone is considered equal and unique; where each culture has an equal stance; there comes a movie that shatters all our perception of being one big happy family. ‘Crash’ is one such movie.

Crash’, an Oscar winning film by Paul Haggis, comes at a time where the world is at crossroads with globalization and political correctness and wars and riots being waged over race, religion and gender. According to wikipedia.com, the film ‘depicts several characters living in Los Angeles, California and brings them together through car accidents, shootings, and carjackings. Most of the characters depicted in the film are racially prejudiced in some way and become involved in conflicts which force them to examine their own prejudices. Through these characters’ interactions, the film attempts to depict and examine racial tension in America.’

One thing I admire in the film is its unabashed portrayal of ethnic stereotypes and sparing no-one in the in-film slurs and insults. From blacks (or should I be politically correct and say African Americans?) to Hispanics to Chinese and even Arabs and Iranians, people become ‘ethnic’ as long as they are not ‘white’. But what defines ‘white’ or even ‘black’? With so many ethnic communities in the United States and world over, and with more inter-race marriages, not many can say they are of a ‘pure race’ (except maybe British royalty and some hicks, but they’ll bleed to death soon with all the in-bred thalassaemia).

Another movie that tackled the issue of ethnicity, but not quite as tasteful, was ‘Team America: World Police’. This satirical film, while political in its agenda, focuses on ethnic stereotypes:

The film also plays on the assumed ethnocentrism of its largely American audience. When a new location is shown, the caption will give the place’s name and its distance from the United States in miles (in reality measured from New York City). All landmarks in Paris and Cairo are closely located. Also, other languages are simplified to the point of ridicule. French is reduced to stock phrases such as “sacre dieu”, the only Spanish line is “no me gusta”, repeated several times, and Arabic is given as a guttural combination of the words “derka”, “jihad”, sherpa, bakala, “Mohammed”, and “Allah”. The Korean language was also simplified for the movie. While no real Korean words were actually used in speech, the real verb endings of “~~ㅂ니까 (~~mnikka)?” (sentence ending in a question) and “~~ㅂ니다 (~~mnida)” (sentence ending in a statement) were used after nonsensical words to give the dialogue a Korean-like sound. The movie’s sound track features a song entitled North Korean Melody, consisting of mostly gibberish words on top of a stereotypically Asian melody; [3] the only recognizable words in the song were “Kim Jong-Il”, presumably referring to the cult of personality surrounding the ruler. Despite not using real Korean words in speech, real and sensical Korean written characters are used in all Korean writing in the movie. The stereotypical Asian pronunciation of English “R”s instead of “L”s is used heavily by Kim Jong-il. For example, he greets people with “Herro” and calls Hans Blix “Hans Brix.” When Koreans write their names or introduce themselves, they always use their family name first: Kim (family name) Jong-il (given name). Western culture is the opposite. So, when Hans Blix meets Kim Jong-il in Kim Jong-il’s palace, Blix addresses Mr. Kim as “Mr. Il”.

I believe that although films like ‘Crash’ and ‘Team America: World Police’ might be offensive to some, films like these help us understand each other more by bringing the stereotypes we have created out in the open.
