Page of Wands…
Today’s card is the Page of Wands. Wands represent that part of us which includes ambition, creative energy and growth.
In the Waite deck, the card depicts a youth who is holding his wand rather proud, just like is about to relay a message. In the Gothic deck, a gargoyle is pushing down on a skull with his right hand while holding the wand in his left. His moth is open and tongue out, as if to speak.
The card symbolizes an upcoming message, one of personal nature – unexpected but perhaps good news. It also can represent a loyal and passionate companion – friend of friends, enemy of enemies. While on their good side, they are fiercely loyal and devoted. But when on their bad side, a deadly opponent. But as it is a Page card, it could also represent someone who has yet to learn and wise up and so maybe naive and possessing child-like innocence.
Nine of Pentacles…
Todays card is the Nine of Pentacles. Another pentacle – another card on wealth, material possessions and security.
In the Waite deck, the card shows a well to-do woman alone in her garden with a vineyard and bird. Although she is alone, she is comfortable and familiar with her surroundings. In the Gothic deck, it shows a solitary wraith looking down and lightly caressing a vine-covered tomb, with a raven perched on the tomb. She is looking down on the neglected grave in a forest clearing.
The cards combined point towards being in solitude but secure in the surrounding and being in isolation. It also seems to point toward keeping your eye on the prize and attaining it and reaping the benefits and security it provides once you reach the goal.
Perhaps its a reminder that in the bleakness to not lose sight of the goals we have, and that the rewards are sweet if we keep inching towards goals and stay on track.
Page of Swords…
Today’s card is the Knave or Page of Swords. The Page, or Knave, is a court card that symbolizes a youth who is yet to mature and can represent either a young boy or girl.
In the Waite deck, the page is on a hill swinging his sword rather recklessly, perhaps in practice or in restlessness. In the Gothic deck, it shows a winged demon perched on a sword-engraved tombstone. His features are hidden except for his eyes, which are watchful like a predator. He is on his hunches, ready to pounce when opportunity strikes.
Both cards combined give in the sense that the Page is an impatient and reckless person, an opportunist who will turn on you the minute your back is turn. He/she is immature and fickle, and does what they please and is selfish. It could also be a person who is two-faced.
Now I’m not sure if these means that someone else has ulterior motives to deceive me, or perhaps me who deceitful to myself, or perhaps other unknowingly. But the message of the card is to keep vigilance and be aware that all is not what it seems…
Ten of Pentacles…
Todays card is Ten of Pentacles. As I said before, the Pentacles generally refer to your sense of identity in the physical world, wealth, security, materialistic things.
The Waite deck shows a patriarch with his family and dogs enjoying a family time. The Gothic deck shows a brooding vampire taking his unconscious lover over the threshold of his domain, the sign of a new phase of life.
Both cards hint at the fruitation or success of hard work and that now is a time to reap and bask in the abundance of wealth and security. It could also mean that it is something I would like to have, or that I desire a more traditional viewpoint of a family and security.
Knight of Swords…
What is it with me picking so many cards dealing with swords? I guess my mind must be full of issues relating to conflict and communication.
The Waite deck shows a gallant knight dashing forward with his sword high up in the air. On the reins are little butterflies, which are symbols for the soul. The Gothic deck shows a winged knight standing on a castle turret, looking down through the mist. On his right hand is a banner which is raised in triumph, while his sword is held on his left.
The cards combined represent a gallant knight who rushes towards his opponents and crushes them. He is a ruthless opponent who crushes those who have treated him unfairly or betrayed him. He is clever and sharp witted, but just. He will not back down or allowed to be trampled over.
As a court card, this represents an archetype of someone, perhaps me or someone who influences me. Perhaps an enemy who feels that way? Who knows…
Queen of Swords…
Today’s card is the Queen of Swords. As previously mentioned, the Swords represent an aspect of human nature that deals with communication, understanding and conflict. The Queen is court card. Now court cards of any suit generally represent an archetype of a personality that can be found within yourself, or an influencing personality close to you. Queens generally represent a mature feminine, caring and nurturing aspect of the person, whether they are male or female.
The Waite deck shows a stately queen on a throne with her sword pointed upwards to the sky. She has a stern look on her face, as if she has seen many things. In the Gothic deck, the card shows a raven-haired black-cloaked woman with her sword pointed down, as if she is ready for anything thrown in her path. She is at the edge of a ledge, with a winged gargoyle blocking her path and hissing at what may be below the ledge.
From the cards combined, I think the Queen of Swords represents a nature that has seen many sorrows in life. She is isolated due to the pain, but she is willing to plow straight and face her adversaries and may sometimes force herself into a confrontation. Unlike the previous card, six of swords, she is wiser but wistful through the pain.
According to the books, she is could also represent a widow or a woman unable to bear children. Perhaps she is also in mourning of loves lost. She is also quick-witted, frank and charming but has suppressed her emotions and emotional needs.
I wonder who that represents….
Six of Swords
Today’s card is the Six of Swords. As this is the first of Swords suit in the daily read, I’ll tell you a little about swords. The Swords suit is a part of the minor Arcana and represents areas of life that are related to communications, understanding and conflict. Perhaps the least positive of suits, but not one to be scared of.
In the Waite deck, it shows a cloaked figure travel with the six swords in a ferry. The Gothic deck shows a different perspective. It shows a female warrior with her black wolf with wings hold a sword, while the other five lie in front of her. She has a stance of one who is ready to face the world, yet warding enemies off with the beats, swords and skull besides her feet.
In combination of the two cards, I would say the card represents a new perspective on things. No longer is there fear or waiting in stealth. It is the time to take matter in my own hands and take a stand. Perhaps flee if that is the wisest option.
The books also add another perspective that I haven’t taken account of. It says something on the lines of emotions giving way to logic and whether it is losing the battle or conquering it, knowing when to fight and when to thrown in the towel. Now is the time to move on.
True. And I have made an effort to end the war and bring some peace back…
CotD: Judgment – XX (again)
How coincidental and weird is it to get the same card again despite shuffling it thoroughly? I suppose until I don’t resolve certain issues, I’ll probably keep pulling this card out. If you want to know more, refer to my previous post.
I didn’t stay at work long today as I couldn’t sleep all night and when I did get up to use the loo, I puked from 5am onwards till about 9ish. I phoned in work saying I’d be late. I should have taken off, but I felt bad and knew there was something due by this evening. So I showed up, finished it, and went to MoE before heading home.
I only intended to pick up cash and head straight to bed. But I felt so sick and depressed I needed to get something to cheer me up. Now I know in the past, lingerie shopping would perk me up. But I found a much more profound splurge to pick me up: books. I went to Borders and splurged on a few books as a ‘pick-me-up’. Even as a kid I could spend days in a library or bookstore. My biggest splurge in US this year was at Barnes&Nobles. I love books and if space permitted, I’d have a library of all my books. But instead, I squeeze them in whatever nook and cranny I get. I even have an Amazon wish list for books that I hope to buy or that I secretly wish people would buy me. If I got vouchers or gift cards to bookstores, I’d be in heaven!
Why the obsession with books? Books don’t put on weight, are a lifetime investment and you never get too thin or too fat for them. They offer me that escape from reality and allows me to live in someone else’s life for a while, even if it is fictional. I can tune out whatever is happening around me, or even if my world is crumbling, and just live in a world of fantasy. I actually get depressed and cry when I reach the last page of the book because I have to go back to my own world.
It’s sad when people think it’s uncool to read books (magazines not included). Books are such a great wealth of information and pleasure. *sigh* Back to bookworld again. I should probably buy a loyalty card of a bookshop since I frequent them so often.
Judgement – XX
An apt card for today: Judgment. It’s a card of the Major Arcana. Before I go any further, let me talk a little about the Major Arcana. The Major Arcana is a set of 22 cards within the Tarot that represent archetypes of people or personalities that are a part of you or influence you. They also represent things that have to do with the overall picture of existence. That being said, Judgement represents the 20th card (or 21st if you count The Fool as the 1st).
In the Waite deck, it shows the archangel Gabriel blowing his horn on the Day of Resurrection, causing all men, women and children to rise from the resting places. In the gothic deck, it shows a wraith in a graveyard listening intently to a statue of the angle reading above her, as if to give her accounts.
The card is fairly straightforward. It is time for judgment. It is one part liberating as the day has come and the wait is over. It is also the time to be accountable for your actions and pay your dues, as well as starting fresh once you take account of your actions. Since my interpretation is very accurate, I won’t be comparing it to the book today.
This card is very true, especially today.
Ace of Cups…
Today’s card is the Ace of Cups. Now before I go into my interpretation, let me tell you a little about Cups. Cups is a suit in the minor arcana bit of the deck, which generally refers to happenings with the heart, emotions and relationships. I can without doubt say that the fact that I think a lot about relationships is also manifesting itself into the cards.
Now to the card itself. In the Waite deck, it shows a ‘godly’ hand holding a cup from which water issues forth in all four directions. There is also a dove that has a biscuit. It looks alot like the Holy Grail. But in the gothic deck, the card shows an ornate goblet with rubies encrusted near the rim. The colors are shades of black and red.
From my very sketchy reading and knowledge of Aces in general, I think it means the beginning or potential for love and intimacy. Perhaps a new friend or romance. Perhaps me opening up to someone new, or to someone I was distant before. Is that happening right now? Perhaps.
What does the book say? Wow. Pretty much the same. Although I like the line “Contentment, joy and abundance, harmonious home life, health, nourishment, a new relationship, truth in love“. Perhaps it could also mean that because it’s the weekend and I’m relaxing, I will be ‘nourished’ and ‘healthy’. hehe…
